Shooting at Howe Park Leaves Four Victims Wounded in Arden-Arcade Sacramento
Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking into a gun violence incident that broke out on April 18 2026 at Howe Park in Sacramento at the moment authorities were clearing an unsanctioned gathering of hundreds of attendees.
How It Started
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office initially responded to the park at approximately 6:30 PM on April 18 after getting calls of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Soon after, a second caller reported regarding an alleged brawl breaking out at the location.
Air support searched from above but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Despite this, it was evident that a massive group had gathered without authorization without permission.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Officers moved to clear the area by setting up around the park's perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers telling the assembled crowd to vacate the area. Nearly 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.
At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 gunshots cut through the air. Gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Responding personnel wasted no time in searching for victims.
Four People Shot
Ultimately, four gunshot victims were located with gunshot injuries. The shooting victims — comprising three men and one woman each reported to be in their mid to late twenties — were brought to area medical facilities. Medical teams noted that two were treated for serious injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. In a positive development, all four were in stable condition.
Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and helped care for those with gunshot wounds at the park.
The Investigation
The main crime scene was determined to have been concentrated adjacent to Cottage Way adjacent to the local Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Detectives discovered more spent casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Bullet holes were discovered in the metal fencing near the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence confirmed that a shooter had been sending rounds south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The nearby Home Depot was secured under a brief website lockdown for a period of time. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives continued working for hours.
Suspect Information
Reports confirmed over scanner radio traffic revealed that a suspect Kia had been stopped in Solano County. Four detainees were detained. Law enforcement units were sent to retrieve the detainees to transport the detainees for further questioning. Video that was reviewed revealed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
